REVIEW: Unexpected by Jenna Hartley

Release Date: December 12, 2019

Cover Design: LJ Anderson @ Mayhem Cover Creations

As corny as it may sound ‘Unexpected’ was well… unexpected. 😂 I really enjoyed the book.

Even though he was a younger man, Preston knew exactly what he wanted in his life. He appreciated life more because of what he’d been through and didn’t want to waste his time with things and people who didn’t add value to it.

Alexis was a no nonsense professional and single mom to a little princess named Sophia. I liked how her personality was fleshed out.

The moments between Sophia and Preston were achingly sweet. The kind that makes your heart just melt. Between Preston and Alexis, there was a spark that quickly became an inferno.

I enjoyed getting to know these two and the plot felt fresh even though I’ve read books about “mannies” before. I’m interested in more from this author.

Synopsis

Alexis

I will not sleep with my daughter’s new nanny, no matter how hot he is.

And boy is he. Preston Hawthorne looks like he’d be more at home on a Hollywood set than playing dress-up with my daughter. But he dotes on her, bringing a sense of calm and order to our home. And the way he looks at me, the way he makes me feel is…unexpected. As if I might spontaneously combust.

I know better than to mix business with pleasure, and I certainly don’t fall for men who are nearly a decade younger than me. But the more time I spend with Preston, the more I’m tempted to break all my rules.

Preston

I need to start thinking more about my future and less about screwing my boss.

Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done. Especially when she’s doing yoga on the lawn and working ungodly hours to provide for her daughter. Not to mention, she’s successful, savvy, and the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen.

But I’m determined to finally finish my degree, and that means I have to keep my job. A relationship with Alexis Black is the last thing I need, even if she’s the only thing I want.

Blog Tour: Beard Necessities by Penny Reid

REVIEW

I’ve been looking forward to Billy’s story from book one. He had the toughest shell but was always the first to make sacrifices and take care of others. We got to really know that in Beard With Me where his beginnings with Scarlett were woven. I genuinely don’t think that this story would’ve been as rewarding as it was if we didn’t have the backstory.

The plot really brings the whole family together. Cletus takes his antics to another level to see his brother and close friend happy and everyone supports it wholeheartedly. The story held a lot of emotion and depth but for me, it fell slightly short of the build up that was set up by its predecessor. To be frank though, Ms. Reid’s “slightly less” is still an absolutely stellar read.

I will miss the Winstons but I’m curious to see what Ms. Reid comes up with next. She is one of those authors I look to when I want a certain level of quality writing without taking a risk.

No one deserves a happily-ever-after quite as much as the second oldest Winston brother and his lady love, Claire McClure (aka Scarlet St. Claire). Cruelty and circumstance tore them apart almost twenty years ago. Secrecy and bitterness kept them separated.

But you know who’s tired of their separation and stubbornness? Everyone. Especially Billy Winston’s family. And now they’re going to do something about it.

Well-meaning interference means the star-crossed lovers can’t stop tripping over each other in the hills of Tuscany, the catacombs of Rome, and the waterways of Venice. Billy and Claire find themselves thrown together and at the mercy of the Winston siblings’ shenanigans.

But will their forced proximity bring them together? Or push them even further apart?

This second-chance romance brings back the entire Winston gang, playing cupid in one last story of love, hi-jinks, and family collusion.

BEARD NECESSITIES is a full-length contemporary romantic comedy, and can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s probably best read after books 0.5, 2, 3, 5, and 6 of the Winston Brothers series.

Cover Reveal: Say It Ain’t So by Lani Lynn Vale

He should’ve never left his house. He should’ve stayed at home. He has a legitimate excuse—he’s running a fever and he’s fairly sure he’s developing pneumonia. He should have called in sick…but he doesn’t.
He goes to work, because his team is relying on him.
First, he has to sign about eight thousand calendars—all from women who purchased said calendars to benefit the Fallen Officer fundraiser. And when he’s done with that, he has to endure a television interview along with the rest of the SWAT team seeing as they made national news with their ‘Hot SWAT’ calendar that’s sold a million copies to women all over the world.
Needless to say, when Samuel Adams walks into the pharmacy hours later, he only has one thing on his mind. Ibuprofen.
Sadly, he never gets to the Ibuprofen. Mostly because before he gets there, he finds a junkie waving a gun around threatening to kill anybody that moves.
He’s running a fever. That has to be the reason that the girl in the corner begins cursing up a storm and drawing the junkie’s attention. Has to be.
***
Stop it, stop it, stop it!
She tells herself to take a deep breath. Tells herself that she needs to calm down. Tells herself that if she doesn’t get her act under control, things are going to get ugly.
And, of course, that’s when the curse words start flying.
The more nervous she gets, the worse her Tourette’s becomes. Which is, of course, why she stands up and gives the man a perfect target.
Thank God that the coughing giant in the corner makes the same move and saves her life.
And how does she repay him? By calling him every awful word in the dictionary.
Thank you, Tourette’s.
