This is a second chance love story. Trent walked away from Cordy and while I’m not a fan of his reasons, I can see why he did it. His feelings for her never changed and now that he’s got his life better sorted and an opportunity with her on the same team, he’s not going to let her get away. The plot was good overall but I struggled in the beginning to connect to the story. It starts off a little slow. I honestly wasn’t sure I was going to end up liking it. It got really interesting when Trent and Cordy moved forward in their relationship. After that, I was fully engaged and interested. There was both internal and external conflict covered. I liked the concept of a woman on a male college team, even if the original motivation for the change by the college wasn’t all that altruistic. It was different from the norm and all the better for it. I liked that the characters showed depth and growth. The couple was sexy as hell together. I mean scorching! All in all a good read. If you’re not sure about it in the beginning just hang on a little longer and you might be pleasantly surprised. Safety: No OM/Sharing. There is an OW but nothing happens with her. No rape/abuse.

3.5 Stars. Abe made many mistakes during his brief marriage to Sarah. The Abe he was during that period of time is very difficult to read about, accept, and even reconcile with the Abe we got to know through the stories for the rest of the Schoolboy Choir band. It was not easy to move past the initial part of their story together and I anticipate that many will find that to be the defining factor for how they view the book overall. While I personally didn’t find his reasoning to justify the actions, I am happy that he finally sees the error of his ways. Sarah doesn’t get left behind either. She is flawed and insecure but I still found her relatable and became emotionally vested during her suffering. Abe and Sarah together have great sexual chemistry but I don’t know if that extends beyond the physical. The sensual scenes are seriously scorching hot but outside the bedroom lies a lot of emotional hurt, mistrust, and insecurity. They do work through some of their issues but I think long term, they would need a stronger support system. The writing, as always, was excellent. The pacing on point. The plot was not easy to cover but the author did a good job addressing some difficult issues. Safety: H cheats with OW before divorce is final. h starts a relationship soon after ending with H. No sharing. No condoms. There is abuse both physical and emotional. This aspect might be difficult to handle for some readers. No rape.

 Blurb

New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh continues her Rock Kiss series with a hot, sweet, emotional contemporary romance about love and forgiveness…

After a lifetime of longing for a real family, Sarah Smith thought she’d finally found her home with rock star Abe Bellamy, even if she knew Abe didn’t love her the way she loved him. But their brief relationship, filled with tragedy and heartache, nearly destroyed her. Alone, emotions in turmoil, and already shaky self-esteem shattered, Sarah struggles to pick up the pieces in the wake of their divorce.

Abe knows he’s to blame for the end of his marriage. Caught in a web of painful memories, he pushed away the best thing in his life – the sexy, smart woman he adores – breaking them both in the process. Then fate throws him a second chance to get things right, to prove to Sarah that she means everything to him. Abe desperately wants that second chance at love…even if he knows he doesn’t deserve it.

But can he convince Sarah – now strong and independent without him – to risk her wounded heart one more time?

 Excerpt

Plowing his gloved fists into the punching bag in front of him on the morning of the fourth day, Abe blocked out the other sounds in the gym and attempted to lose himself in the rhythm of the mindless action. It worked for about a minute before his mind filled with Sarah again. Her shy smile when he gave her a compliment. The way she’d sit curled up under his arm and read to him on lazy summer days.

Hard on the heels of that memory came one of him throwing her books in the pool in a drug-fueled rage. She’d been sobbing as she tried to save them.

“Fucking bastard,” Abe muttered, talking to his past self. He punched the bag so hard that it threatened to swing back right into his face. He didn’t care. He deserved to have his face beaten in.

Ripping off his gloves afterward, he showered, then went straight to a bookshop.

It was too little too late, but now that he’d remembered his asshole behavior, he couldn’t just leave it. Ball cap pulled low, he wandered the aisles… then realized most people here didn’t care who he was; they were more interested in the volumes that lined the shelves. He spent an hour inside the murmuring quiet of the store, searching for the titles he remembered seeing on their bedside table. She’d definitely read him Jane Austen.

He couldn’t remember which one though, so he bought the entire set.

And there was this one romance novel she loved and had read over and over again. He’d teased her it would fall apart in her hands one day. She’d just smiled and read him a paragraph that she’d told him was part of her favorite scene. What the hell had it been? Yes, that was it. In the end, it turned out the store didn’t have that book in stock, so he bought her a bunch of new releases featuring people with dogs or puppies on the covers. He definitely remembered seeing covers like that in their home

After spotting it in a display, he added in a nonfiction book about a woman who’d set up her own company while nearly flat broke and who was now a millionaire. At the counter, he paid extra to have the books wrapped up and packaged.

He’d called his car service earlier; the driver shot him a funny look when he put the package in the passenger seat and gave him Sarah’s address. “I’m a courier now?” the stocky middle-aged man asked, having worked long enough for Schoolboy Choir that he was a friend. They’d all missed his calm demeanor and total trustworthiness when he broke his leg recently and had been out for a while.

“Best in the business,” Abe responded.

The other man snorted. “I’ll get it to her now.”

Blowing out a breath after the gleaming black town car pulled away, Abe went to where he’d parked his SUV and got in. He didn’t want to go home to his empty house, but he didn’t want to barge in on his friends either. David and Thea, Noah and Kit, they needed time alone. As for Molly and Fox, while the newlyweds were back home after a short wedding trip, having postponed their honeymoon until later in the year, Abe wasn’t about to bust up their love nest.

Gabriel and Charlotte probably wouldn’t have minded the company since they’d been doing the sightseeing thing, but the other couple had flown back to New Zealand twenty-four hours earlier—after inviting all of them to their own wedding.

His phone buzzed right then.

Picking it up, he saw a message from Fox. Molly and I are at that Thai place with the noodles you like. We saved you a seat if you want to join us for lunch.

Damn, he loved his bandmates. On my way, he messaged back.

Starting the engine, he tried not to obsess over if Sarah would call him after receiving his long overdue gift. Hell, he’d be content with her throwing the books at his head. All he wanted was for her to talk to him, to let him show her he wasn’t that guy anymore, the one who’d destroyed them both.

3.5 Stars. Alright ya’ll so I really liked the first part and where it was heading. Noah and Olivia were building something pretty special but towards the end, something scares Olivia enough to do something drastic. The second part picks up where that left off and to be honest, I found the reason a little anticlimactic. However, it affords Noah a bit of an opportunity to show Olivia who he is and how much he cares. Finally, we get to see some real intimacy between these two and it’s pretty darn sexy. I liked how they started to be together, though the length of the serial parts makes me worry that the last installment won’t give them the time for much needed developmental growth as a couple. I am frustrated at Noah’s lack of communication about the details of their agreement, especially after they move forward. The next cliffhanger also plants a seed regarding Noah’s personality that goes against who I thought he was at the first installment. That aspect of the story was quite disappointing. All in all, a decent read. I am still curious to see how it all unfolds. Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing. Neither are Vs. They use condoms (NOTE: There’s something to this that I can’t mention without spoiling, but that Safety Gangers would likely find caution worthy). No rape/abuse.

Hitched 2Arranged marriage? Check.

Cocky new husband? Check.

It’s a marriage of convenience—one I’m determined to keep strictly professional. I can’t be stupid enough to fall for this sexy playboy’s charm or advances. I have to be strong, even if he is my husband.

Except he has a huge cock with an even bigger ego, and his main goal in life seems to be getting me to stroke both. The arrogant bastard is like sweet, sugary candy for my libido. I know he’s bad for me.

But I want to devour every wicked inch of him.

With his sexual prowess and experience, I know he’ll be explosive in the bedroom. And since we’re stuck together for the foreseeable future—keeping up this marriage charade long enough to turn the company profitable again—I deserve something to look forward to at the end of a long workday, right?

What could one little taste hurt?

This is volume 2 in the Imperfect Love series.

“What’s wrong?” I ask.

“Just a little tight, is all.”

I inhale through my nose. I have to shove the pregnancy stuff to the back corner of my brain. We’re a long way off from Olivia letting me pump her full of my semen anyhow, so why am I stressing about it now? The first step is showing her how compatible we can be.

And that starts now.

I smile at her. “Sit tight. I’ll be right back.”

I grab a bottle of massage oil from the hall closet and return to the living room. The soft jazz music seems to float in the air, creating a pleasant buzz in the atmosphere.

Olivia’s eyes widen when I rejoin her on the couch, but she doesn’t question me.

“I’ll give you a massage,” I suggest. “Take off your sweatshirt.”

Olivia flinches, chewing on her lip while she watches me. “But I’m not wearing anything underneath.”

That’s the idea. “I promise not to look.”

She hesitates for another second, then turns her back to me and pulls her shirt over her head, dropping it to the floor. The creamy canvas in front of me is one to be admired. The twin dimples in her lower back near the band of her leggings would make lesser men weep.

I warm a few drops of oil between my palms and rest my hands on her stiff shoulders.

“Relax. Okay?”

Review: Don’t Tempt Me by Lori Foster

lori foster

Cover Love: 4 Stars

I’ve been a Lori Foster fan for a while now and Don’t Tempt Me was a great addition to her collection. Honor and Jason meet when Honor moves into Jason’s neighborhood, which is what I would call a recovering neighborhood. There are a lot of fixer uppers at good deals and commerce is beginning to grow. Honor is loving her first home and is invested in its success. She is willing to work hard and learn. She is also very used to having only herself to count on so when her sexy neighbor Jason wants to help, she is quite reluctant. The story follows them navigating through the situation as neighbors, friends, then eventually lovers. There is a depth and crispness to the characters that makes their transitions that much more meaningful. Of course, in the early stages of a culture shift, there is a period of adjustment in which theft, vandalism, and the like are used to discourage change and progress. When trouble arises, Jason and the other neighbors that have become friends to Honor, really look out for her. Honor is also dealing with family problems that have shaped her personality in a big way. There’s as much internal as there external conflict and Lori Foster does a great job of tying the threads together. Not to mention the sexy scenes galore, despite Honor’s aversion to kink (boooo). Where I felt the story lost some impact was in covering the story happening on the sidelines between Sullivan, one of Honor’s neighbors, and Honor’s best friend Lexie. While I admit that it was very sexy indeed and added some emotional depth to both the secondary characters, I felt it diverted some of the focus from our main characters. They are also not going to be the focus of the second book in the duology so it made it seem that much more unnecessary. Another point of note for me was the lack of reaction from Honor at being around a former lover of Jason. I’m sorry but no reaction at all? Pluh-ease. A little twinge or something would have been more believable. Even if she ends up liking her at the end. Finally, for the life of me, I can’t figure out the animosity between Lexie and Jason’s brother. Until Sullivan entered the picture I was sure they would be the couple for book two… Safety: No OM/OW/Sharing. An ex comes into the picture but not in a negative way. She is actually the heroine of the next book along with Jason’s bother as hero. They use condoms. Neither are Vs. No rape/abuse.

Review: Falling in Deeper by Shayla Black

black

Cover Love: 4 Stars

I always wondered what the deal was with Sweet Pea as she cameoed in other stories, especially in Axel’s telling. She was under the protection and care of Axel when he fell in love with another woman. Lily has gone through some traumatic events that have shaped who she is as we get to know her. She is very slow to trust and needs the structure and care that a dominant provides. She is hiding from her past but unfortunately, nothing can stay hidden forever. Stone enters her life as he is forced to seek her cooperation in an investigation. He has always been intrigued by the shy beauty and uses the opportunity to his advantage. As their story begins to unravel, the trust they have begun to form is put to the test. The plot is very interesting with good twists. The author does a good job of addressing some sensitive topics such as rape and abuse as well as physical/emotional needs and the separation or fusion of the two. With Stone, Lily gets to experience for the first time what it is to be loved, wanted, and needed for herself. Her awakening in that aspect is beautiful to behold. The story is written well when it comes to the love/emotion scenes but also when there is action and a hint of suspense as the tale unravels. I have read most of the series and found this to be a great addition. I am eagerly looking forward to the next tale. It seems a bit of a seed was planted with Cutter/One-Mile and I want to see what that grows to be. Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing. Neither are Vs. There is rape/abuse.

EXCERPT

“Oh, fuck. You’re so beautiful. You need this now, don’t you? Yeah,” he agreed when she nodded frantically. “Let it take you under. Let me hear you scream.”

Lily couldn’t think of anything she wanted more. As she circled her hyperaware nerve endings again, her body jerked. Desire surged. When Stone bent to take her nipple in his mouth, she clasped the back of his head and anchored him to her. Not that he’d do anything except help her drown. But this time nothing would be sweeter.

He dragged a hand up to her other nipple and tangled his fingers with her own. Together, they manipulated the tip of that breast while he sucked the other hard and scraped the very tip with his teeth.

Sensations mounted again. She felt like a vessel filling up with blood, with need, with an imminent explosion. It was right there . . .

Her legs shook. Her hips jerked. She whimpered, strained for it. She tasted need.

But she couldn’t seem to fall over the sweetly sharp edge.

Lily pressed harder against her clit, narrowing her circles, focusing on just how good this was going to be. The seconds ticked off in her head, slowly becoming minutes. The exquisite need was its own form of hell, and she couldn’t seem to escape.

The torture dragged on, and she saw no way out. She squeezed her eyes shut, feeling defeat begin to creep in.

Stone sprang into action, popping her nipple from between his lips and grazing her ear with his lips. “You got this, baby. Focus on my voice and close your eyes. Yeah, I know that’s hard, but I’ve got you.”

Oddly, she already believed that.

“Picture yourself naked and me standing over you, stroking my cock. You know I’m going to tell you how sexy you are and how much I want you. Imagine that I’d fall to my knees between those pretty thighs. When you hold your arms open to me, I’ll go right into them. Then I’m going to kiss you, touch every lush, tingling curve of your body, and when you’re begging, that’s when I’ll slide inside you. Deep. That’s when I’ll stroke you slowly and thoroughly and make you claw my back as you come.”

As he spoke, her desire and racing blood clashed, merged. Everything inside her roared to a screaming crescendo. The wall she’d been slamming into, preventing her from falling over, disintegrated. She envisioned exactly what Stone told her to picture. She saw herself being not just perfectly able but eager to lie back and welcome him inside her as he gave her mind-blowing pleasure and she surrendered herself completely.

Cover Love: 4 Stars

Noah and Olivia find themselves in a tough situation. They grew up together with their fathers as founding business partners. In order to keep the business that they both love under their care and control, they must meet the condition of marriage to one another. While Noah is not all that appalled by the idea of marrying his dream girl, Olivia is of another opinion. It seems that Noah treated their possibly budding relationship as teens in a manner that left her mending a broken heart. He has since then built up a reputation for being promiscuous, which she feels is not conductive to a good marriage. This first part details them coming to terms with the condition and beginning to know each other again. It seems that there is much more to Noah than meets the eye and the way the story is told, he definitely starts to earn Olivia’s trust but ours as well. I found the writing and characters to be cute and charming. I was instantly captivated by the narrative voice and found myself smiling as little details shaped the personalities of our main characters. I find the waiting component of serials to be frustrating but I can’t find myself regretting picking up this little gem. In fact, I am anxiously awaiting the next as we are left with a cliffy that needs some explaining stat. Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing, but H does have quite the past and h’s ex enters the picture in a non-romantic manner. No rape/abuse.

“That’s the whole point of doing this trial period—to see how well we can play ball together before committing to a team-up. I’m doing my best to become friends with you, so . . .”

He tilts his head with a half smile. “Just friends? I’ve got my sights set a little higher.”

Gee, I never would have guessed, what with his constant attempts to steer the conversation toward sex.

I quirk one eyebrow in skepticism. “Friendship is all we need to pull this thing off. And we’re pretty much starting from square one . . . I would call us acquaintances, at best. Don’t you think you’re being a little overambitious?”

“Nope,” he replies, cocky smile still firmly in place.

I roll my eyes. “Wow. Your arrogance truly has no limits.”

“If I can put my money where my mouth is . . .” His lustful smirk makes it clear exactly where he’d like to put his mouth. “Then it’s not arrogance. Just confidence.”

“What makes you think I would want more with you, anyway? You aren’t exactly my type.”

I expect him to just give me a knowing look, or maybe toss back some mild innuendo. What I absolutely did not expect was, “Because I have a nine-inch cock.”

I almost choke on my martini for a third time. I splutter, “Is that number supposed to impress me?”

3”

I give him a skeptical look. “You want to show me your dick?”

“If it’ll help convince you.” He drains the last drops of his Scotch and stands up. “Come on, let’s go.”

I stare after him as he walks away.

Is he serious? He’s just going to whip it out? I look around to see if anyone is watching me, then I get up and follow him to the bar’s back hallway, near the restrooms, unable to comprehend why the hell I’m humoring him. This is ridiculous.

Once we’re safely in a private corner, Noah undoes his belt, opens his fly . . . and pulls out a fucking fire hose.

Holy mother of God. My hands fly to my mouth. I want to gasp in shock, but there’s no way I’m giving him the upper hand.

He was right. His cock is nothing short of massive, and it’s not even fully erect right now. Nine inches may actually be a conservative estimate of what it might look like hard. He must destroy men’s egos every time he walks into a locker room. And I don’t even want to think about what he destroys with women . . .

“Meh. I’ve seen bigger,” I force out, fighting to maintain my composure.

Noah chuckles. “I don’t think so, sweetheart.”

“Well, th-that monster is not coming anywhere near my uterus. No, thank you. I prefer to keep my organs intact.”

Noah’s grin widens. “I doubt that, but just to be on the safe side, I’ll ease it in nice and slow. Piece of cake. Plus, you’ve got good health insurance, right?”

“That is not funny, Noah. Now, put that thing away or I’ll remove it.”

I try to sound stern, but my shaking voice and bright red cheeks surely give me away. Why the hell can’t I stop staring?

He chuckles—yeah, the jerk can definitely see right through me—but he obliges, tucking the beast back into its lair.

Tate and Camden have quite the history together. Tate has never been like other girls growing up. She loves to fight and is not about pretty frilly things. It’s those differences that made Camden fall for her as a kid and what made it hurt so bad when she was forced to go to college in another state and to sever ties with him. When the college thing doesn’t pan out she returns with a determination not to compromise on what she wants. That is to fight. Her dad, a former fighter, is dead set against her living the hard life of a fighter and it causes a huge rift in an otherwise close relationship. Breaking into the fight world is not easy and even more so for a woman. She ends up at the same gym as Camden with a less than efficient trainer. Camden’s hostility toward her, while not surprising, is painful. But as we all know, where there was once a blazing fire, there is a spark. These two have a lot to work through but the heart will always have its way. The love scenes are delish. Seriously. I wasn’t sure at first how I would like the story as it didn’t immediately click for me. It’s my first by this author and I was getting used to her style. I am glad that I saw it through as the story developed quite well after the initial choppiness. I found myself cheering for these deeply flawed characters. I liked that Tate still had a long way to go to get where she wanted to be. It wasn’t something that came to her easily but something that she had to work hard for. I felt strongly towards some of the antagonists as well meaning the writer does well in establishing emotion. All in all a very good read. Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing, though an ex partner of the H shows up. They lost their V to eachother. No rape. Yes to abuse.
